A specialised form of role consultation and coaching which explores the way in which an individual takes up their role within the workplace. This technique may be utilised when individuals might be experiencing difficulty in effectively assuming their work role.
This may be attributed to any of the following issues, and can be useful when a role is experienced as:

Without clear mandate or direction

When there are difficulties around a role’s configuration

When there are changing demands on both the formal and informal aspects of the role

Further competencies or skills development are required for an incumbent in a role

Organisational or environmental issues ‘spill’ over into a role

Personal dilemmas, behaviours and or styles that make functioning in a role difficult.
Organisational Role Analysis (ORA) is a specialised form of role consultation and coaching which explores the way in which an individual takes up their role within the workplace.
This method allows one to:

Examine and articulate their current work experience.

Analyse the work experience in its organisational setting so as to sharpen up the meaning of that experience in terms of purpose, systems and boundaries.

Grasp opportunities to find, make, and take up an organisational role more effectively, thus transforming one’s contribution towards achieving the aims of the workplace institution.
